The folks at Forward Comix have responded to Marvel’s latest stab at “diversifying” with those HipHop album variant covers by stating this:
“Our response to some recent comic industry news. “You can get with this, or you can get with that.”
There have been a number of missteps by known publishers in the last 1-2 weeks, eager to cash in on the diversity trend, yet lacking minority representation in the creative or decision making process. One of the ‘highlights’ was Marvel’s decision to do a series of hip-hop homage/co-opt/spoof variant covers based on art from significant hip-hop album covers.
