The memorial for HipHop Legend Phife Dawg of A Tribe Called Quest happened last night at the Apollo Theater. At the end of the memorial they presented Phife’s final solo music video called “Nutshell”. In the song Phife describes what he’s all about in a “Nutshell”.
That banging beat for Nutshell was produced by another legend who HipHop lost too soon, J-Dilla. The scratches on the song were masterfully done by Dj Rasta Root. Phife plus Dilla plus Rasta Root? You already know this is gonna be quality HipHop……and it is without question!! It’s so dope to hear Phife killing it on the mic again.
The video, directed by Tony Reames, featured shout outs by Mike G, Pos, Jarobi, Pete Rock, Maseo, Rakim, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, Q-Tip and Redman.
“Nutshell” isn’t the only gift Phife left us with, he also left us more treats with his upcoming EP “Give Thanks” on Smokin Needles Records.
Phife may be gone but his legacy will live on through his family, friends, peers, fans and his music.
Rest In Peace Phife Dawg.
