You know we’re big fans of the DIY Volkswagen micro van, BMX stem designed and manufactured by Al’s Rapid Transit. So when I got an email from Erin Artzner AKA @DeeGeeDoll about her “McLovin Machine” custom Stem, you know I had to share it with ya’ll!
I love Volkswagen’s, BMX and art. I actually spent a good amount of my childhood weekends with my brother hanging out in a little VW shop owned by a cool guy named Herbie, playing with all his rescued shop cats and watching my dad learn how to work on cars for the fun of it. When I found this unique Al’s Rapid Transit VW micro bus BMX stem earlier this year, it combined all the things I love, and I fell in love with it.
I took it to Christopher Cofield at CC Custom Coatings & Graphics out of Parkville, MO for the beautiful paint job, and I love how it turned out. He used Hot Wheels Pink for the bottom half, and a white with small red flakes on the top. Despite the flatter look in the photos, the metal flake really sparkles in the sun! The details he put in the windows and pin-striping really take it up a notch. The McLovin license plate is the name of my cat, who I lost late last year and miss very much. This stem truly combines everything I love, and makes me smile whenever I see it.
