OH SNAP!OH SNAP!

Sam Willoughby BMX Facility In The News After Weather Damage.

The new Sam Willoughby International BMX Facility in Australia was in the news because of weather damage. The 6 million dollar facility’s track started falling apart due to heavy rains. From the video it looks like the soiltac didn’t have enough time to dry before the rain. There was also damage to the asphalt berms. It looked like there was a really thin layer of asphalt laid down in the turns. It looked super mushy when they stepped on it. Unfortunately it seems like the contracctor was cutting corners on this one. When don right the soiltac and asphalt are suppose to protect the track from weather damage.

It has been dubbed world-class but less than a fortnight after it was opened in the southern suburbs, the Sam Willoughby International BMX Facility is at the centre of major safety fears.

~7 News Australia

This was a very high profile project in Australia and most likely a political one. Hopefully things will get worked out in the end. The track looked awesome before the damage.

Opening Day:

7News took a look at the track and interviewed Sam about the track.

Here’s some more footage of the track and facility during opening day. You can also see all the rain that was coming down too.

The place looks amazing. Now they just have to get the track issues worked out. Stay tuned!
