Marsha Ambrosius is back with some audible treats on her upcoming Dr. Dre-produced album Casablanco. Her first single is called “The Greatest” and I’m loving it!
The award-winning singer and songwriter released this gem via Aftermath Records/Interscope Records. She co-produced the track with Dr. Dre, Dem Jointz, Focus…, Trevor Lawrence Jr. and Erik “Bluetooth” Griggs.
What really caught my ear in this song is the beat. I was trying to figure out where I heard the sample used in the first half of the song before. I knew it was a sample from an old TV show but I couldn’t put my finger on it. I was thinking Dragnet or somthing like that but then it hit me…”PERRY MASON!!! It’s gotta be the Perry Mason intro!!” Now I’ve been vibing to this joint for a few weeks and didn’t get a chance to see if I was right. But as I’m making this article I finally looked up the Perry Mason intro and BAM!!! I WAS RIGHT!!! lol.
Fun fact: The Perry Mason intro was originally named “Park Avenue Beat”. It was created by Fred Steiner
Now the 2nd half of the song beautifully transitions into that Ahmad Jamal “I Love Music” sample used in the Nas classic, “The World Is Yours”.
The vibes in that part of the song are so hypnotic and Marsha’s vocals over it just sound so good! Plus she spit a few bars reminding us of here Floetic roots! 😉 As a matter of fact It’s been a long time since I’ve listened to some Floetry. I’m about to vibe out to their albums after I finish this article.
“I just finished recording an album with Dr. Dre ‘Casablanco’ I had an amazing time!! This is some of my best work!!! I’m telling you now: I’m backing this sh** up 100 percent that I’m excited,”
