I returned to racing near the end of the 2023 season. I did a handful of races at HCBMX in Flemington NJ. My friend Jason Lipps helped me out tremendously. I brought a Mongoose title frame, bars, stem and box cranks from him, and he also gave me a bunch of parts. Some of those parts moved over to this build.
I was racing in the 80s when CycleCraft hit the scene. The vivid colors and the turquoise uniforms were at all the nationals. CC was my favorite brand and I always dreamed of racing on one.
Recently I bought a 1984/85 frameset and built it up. That’s a story for another day.
I emailed Patrick at CycleCraft and asked if I could be on the Co-Factory team. I obviously dont have factory credentials. To my surprise he said yes! Ok so now what? I had to st least get a frame. I decided to go the disc brake route and got the Elite XL. I also ordered the wheels, seat, seatpost, caliper, bracket, headset, and bottom bracket: all of which were necessary as my previois seat, wheels etc wouldn’t fit the new frame.
I was able to put old bikes back together with the parts that didnt move over so it wasnt a huge leap.
The frame decals have purple lettering and outlines instead of the standard black.
The FRED’Z decals are a nod to the old FRED’Z-Legs forks. I wanted FRED’Z bars but it wasn’t within my current budget as the cost of 4130 tubing has skyrocketed. So, I kept the Mongoose bars from the prior bike.
The frame color is their standard gloss blue powdercoat. I love it. If you order a CC frame, you pick from dozens of standard or upcharge colors, they then have it powdercoated. It’s a true custom build. You can also pick decal styles and colors.
