The amazing Chula Vista BMX track is shutting down for good! The track that was built at the US Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, CA. It was part of the facility’s Olympic Experience and was open weekly to the public to try. It was said to be one of the top, national caliber tracks in the USA . Unfortunately the track will have its last race on August 24th before it’s gone forever.
But this track is not the same Olympic replica track that was built for the Olympic riders. This track was built for local, state and regional USA BMX races. I never been to the track but looking at the photos and and comments on social media you can tell is was a great track. It’s super sad that the BMX racing community is loosing another track, especially after the amazing BMX racing action from the Paris Olympics.
So far there’s been speculation on the reason it’s closing. Some people were saying it was because of low rider turnout, lack of city support, etc. Also after Covid, the track stayed closed to the public and only recently had one race. It was also open earlier this year for a short practice but that was about it So technically August 24th will be the 2nd and last time that track will be raced on this year, crazy! No official word for Tyler Brown(Track Operator) on the actual reason why it’s shutting down. But hopefully a statement will come out soon. Rumor has it that the track’s location will be used for an Olympic swimming pool.
Welp the good news is that Olympic training track will remain. To be honest I never knew there was more than one track at Chula until this. Wish I had a chance to ride it before it shuts down.
So what are your thoughts on this? Let me know it comments below. And remember to try and support your local tracks when you can.
