Mongoose and Huffy pro riders make it to the podium at the USA BMX Derby Nationals! Yep that’s right, the two long time, legendary BMX brands signed some great pros to race their elite bikes and now they are seeing awesome results. Camren Wood, Payton Ridenour and Carley Kane did an incredible job bringing podium position glory to these BMX racing legacy brands.
Now for those who may not know, Mongoose and Huffy have deep roots in BMX racing and I’ve wanted and also owned BMX bikes from both brands at different points in my life so this is really exiting to me. It’s like a cool comeback story in the making for these brands and I’m all for it.
Camren Wood (Mongoose)
Fresh off a great performance at the Olympics, bringing the Goose to the finals, Cameron Wood came to Louisville and dominated all weekend! Cam was able to bring the Mongoose Title Elite to the top of the podium both days! The BX Olympic pro is now the owner of two Louisville sluggers This dude is on fire right now.
Sidebar – All three Cam’s were competing at Derby Nationals; Cam Wood, Cam Bramer and Kam Larson. 🙂
Payton P-Nut Ridenour (Mongoose)
Payton was also fresh off a trip from the Paris Olympics as the American Women’s BMX alternate rider. So when she got to Louisville she was ready get it poppin on the Derby Nationals track. P-Nut was killing it all weekend battle against the great Olympians Alise Willoughby and Molly Simpson. And on day one Payton brought her Mongoose Title Elite to the top of the podium to win that Louisville Slugger! On day two she was killing it again battling with Molly Simpson in the main but P-Nut got swooped by the hungry Huffy rider, Carley Kane. In the end Payton still got the third place podium spot.
Carly Kane (Huffy BMX)
Carley Kane debuted her prototype Huffy race bike at the Derby Nationals and boy did this bike deliver! The Huffy pro was keeping all the women on their toes with all types of swoop moves in the berms. Every time she went into a berm, she would move up a position…. or two…… or three. It was exciting to see. Now on day one the Huffy rider made it to the main but only came in 5th place. But on day two Carley was getting busy finding lines to pass her competition wherever she could. In the mains, Canada’s Molly Simpson was leading the pack with Payton in 2nd and Carley in third going into turn three. But Carley got the swoop on P-Nut to get the 2nd place podium position. Carly ain’t joke on those berms.
So that’s four podiums for Mongoose and one podium for Huffy in the Pro classes. Not bad for some “Department Store” brands. 😉
I can’t wait to see the production model Huffy elite pro race bike and what the official name of the frame is gonna be. And Mongoose really needs to make a limited edition Wood Grain Cam Wood signature frame. Also is that green Mongoose Title Payton was racing gonna be one of the new 2025 frame colors?
