Chase Bicycles leaked some photos of their highly anticipated Act 2.0 carbon BMX racing frame and it has the industry buzzing! Fifteen BMX dropped photos and videos of the frame all built up via their Instagram Page and I’m liking what I’m seeing.
New Rear Drop Outs:
You know I’m a fan of creative rear dropouts and the Act 2.0 has one! Chase went with a simple, effective design. Of course the dropout is enclosed with a two point internal chain tensioning system. I like how the rear tensioning adjuster screws into the drop out. It also looks like there’s about 2 inches of wheel adjustment to get your wheel in the perfect spot. The disc brake mounts are pretty hidden which also put the brake calipers hidden between the wheel and the dropout for a really clean look. The location of the calipers also keep them protected from getting damaged.
New Seat Post Clamp Design:

Speaking of creative, this new integrated seat post clamp is pretty cool. They litteraly cut out a section of the top tube, seat tube and seat stay area to make room for a quick release seat post clamp. These guys are having too much fun with the creative options of working with carbon materials. I wonder if the lever of the clamp is carbon too.
New Proprietary Headset Design:

The new headset design really peek my intrest. When I first saw it I was thinking it was a flip chip headset similar to the Josh frame. But after looking at it for a little bit, I think it’s a integrated, proprietary headset. That’s why there’s no spacers. The whole cut out piece is the headset cap and it looks like the whole thing rotates. It also looks like the head tube is taller, eliminating the need for a bunch of spacers. And having the stem slammed adds a lot more strength to the front end. Another cool feature is the internal cable routing. I like how the hole is going into headset, through to the downtube. The position makes it so the brake cable will cause little to no wear damage to the paint job.
Now I could be wrong about my guess with the headset so if you know what’s really going on with it. Let me know in the comments.
Overall I’m really liking the new features of the Act frame. It’s definitely a big difference from the previous models. Very forward thinking which I really like. And this proves that there are still more things that can be done with just two triangles 😉
