The folks over at Red Bull Bike have a new series out called the ABC’s Of BMX. The first episode is sub titled “Everything You Need To Know About BMX”.
The official description says “The ultimate BMX breakdown – here is all you need-to-know! A BMX, or Bicycle Motocross, has a long and rich history of the most creative riders constantly taking the sport above and beyond. Get to know the ways this sport has continued to develop and fan out in new ways thanks to so many pioneers.”
That’s cool and all but the 6:18 min video which is sub-sub titled “Commitment” only talks about BMX street. The video starts with them exclusively showing and talking about trick riding..on the street. Not flatland, not vert and nothing about even a brief history of BMX Freestyle let alone racing. BMX Racing is where it all began. There’s also nothing “ABC” about the tricks they were doing in the video lol!
For someone who doesn’t know any better just entering the sport, this video does a disservice to a person who wants to know… “Everything You Need To Know About BMX” .
For the experienced BMX Street riders or BMXers in general, this video is pretty cool. The training segment was really good. I believe this new training aspect for BMX freestyle came about when the discipline got added to the upcoming Olympics. I think that’s awesome.
But this video is titled hella wrong. They really should’ve named the video “Everything You Need To Know About Being A BMX Street Pro”. or The “XYZ’s OF BMX Freesytle” 😉
But wait, there’s a part 2! This one is subtitled “More Things You Need To Know About BMX”. It’s also sub-sub titled “Dirt”. I already knew they weren’t gonna be talking about all the aspect of riding a BMX bike on dirt…Like the actual sport of Bicycle Motocross. Nope! They just talked about trails… Not even the “ABC’s” of trails….Just huge trails! But on a side note, big shout out to the homie Rob Doleki on his cameo in this episode!
Again, this is just an elite pro’s perspective on trail riding. They really should’ve called the. “More Things A Pro Needs To Know About BMX Trails”
The official description of Part 2 reads: “The ultimate BMX breakdown (part 2)! From street to dirt, the legendary BMX, or Bicycle Motocross, has a long and rich history of the most creative riders constantly taking the sport above and beyond. ”
I think it’s wack that a major brand like Red Bull is mis informing the masses and leaving out the actual sport of Bicycle Motocross AKA BMX Racing in these videos. Maybe they’ll mention it in a future episode but judging by the way it’s going we probably wont see anything till about episode 10. 😉 Don’t get me wrong, I think the videos are cool but the titles are totally wrong in my opinion.
So In my opinion, if you want to know the ABC’s of BMX, at least know what it actually is and how it started. Actually Wikipedia has an onpoint brief description on what BMX and BMX Freestyle is. Links to more details are on the “Wiki” at the end of the paragraphs.
