Did you know that Schwinn brought back the classic Predator BMX bike back in February of this year? Yeah we didn’t either, lol. That’s right the legendary brand resurrected the classic 1983 Predator Team 24. This bike is a part of their new “Classic Collection” series of bikes.
This new edition is equipped with aluminum alloy rims, rattrap pedals, classic comp 3 style, gum wall tires, and caliper brakes. Continuing with the retro vibes, Schwinn also kept the 1 inch headset. The decals are exact replicas of the original. The top tube is 21.5″ and it weighs about 30 pounds.
Now the biggest difference between this bike and the original is, all the parts are generic and the frame, fork and bars are made out of Hi-Ten 🙁 . The original Predator Team 24 was made out of 4130 Chromoly, Dia Compe Brakes and Araya 7x Rims. When you have new brands like Monza making retro inspired completes with Tange Cr-Mo tubing, there’s no reason a big brand like Schwinn doesn’t at least make a full Chromoly option to this hi-ten model.
With that said, it’s still a decent bike for kids just cruising around town or for the old guys who want this bike but don’t have the budget to get an original Schwinn 83 Predator Team. But we wouldn’t recommend you hitting up the trails with this one 😉
You can still get one on Amazon for $297.
