Sweetwater Bike Park Grand Opening Footage

Sweetwater Bike Park in San Diego California had it’s grand opening and OurBMX was there to capture all the fun! This place is huge and full of perfectly sculpted dirt jumps of all levels. What really sticks out to me if the fact that none of the jumps have gaps, event the big set. This is how your suppose to build public bike parks. They should be accommodating to all levels of experience and not just the experts and pros. Safe progressive, gapless jumps are what newbies need to advance as riders . The builders at Sweetwater understood that and I hope other builders use this build as a blueprint to future public bike parks.

Soiltac is used on all the dirt to help prevent erosion. This helps with lowering maintenance cost and keeping the track rid-able quickly after storms.

About Sweetwater Bike Park:

Sweetwater Bike Park was built by S&B Engineering and Schneider Grading. Schneider Grading’s owner and lead builder Deven Schneider is joined by Joey Cordova, Matt Stuck and John O’Brien as integral parts of the creative team.

Sweetwater Bike Park features four jump lines ranging from beginner to expert, a jump track, kid’s pump track and skill zone. There are two flow trails, a perimeter trail that connects to those different features, and an entry plaza – perfect for meet-ups and special events.

The park was designed with the community in mind. Three public meetings were held. 10 outreach events with local businesses that drew well over a 100 people. There were hundreds engaged via social media.

This park is a perfect example of the County’s Live Well initiative, to support a healthy, safe and thriving community. Riders of all ages will get a workout as they fine-tune their skills on a variety on increasingly challenging attractions.

San Diego Mountain Biking Association (SDMBA) was instrumental in helping us forge new connections with the mountain biking community, and Child Development Associates (CDA) stepped in with monetary support to cover a portion of the kids pump track. The San Diego County Parks Society aided in the receipt of those funds and will continue to assist with future bike park donations. Mountain bike teams at Eastlake and South Bay high schools provided invaluable feedback on park amenities.
