The abandoned, legendary 2016 Rio Olympic BMX track is in the process of getting rebuilt! Due to the excitement and incredible action from the 2024 Paris Games, it appears that Rio bringing the track back to life. You rarely hear about one of these old, abandoned Olympic facilities getting restored. This is great news on all levels. And it’s especially great news for Paola Reis Santos who representing for Brazil in the women’s class in Paris. This will be a great training facility to get her and other Olympic hopefuls ready for 2028.
The finished the track is said to include a new 5m hill and armature first straight alongside the 8m hill to bring more big international races to the facility. It’ll also help to promote BMX racing locally. This is a great look for BMX racing in Brazil, hopefully Rio will be added to one of the World Cup stops.
