Wow!! Today’s Bike Of The Day is a classic 1999 GT Ultrabox Danny Nelson Replica BMX racing bike! Nicolas Mondon posted this treat on Facebook and I really wanted to featured it on the site. Especially with the recent news about GT taking a “pause” from production and getting rid of all their sponsored riders. Now is a great time to reflect on the great bikes from GT’s history. And this Danny Nelson Replica Ultrabox is a perfect example. There’s so much to look at on this bike from the unique top tube, mx inspired chainstays, the dropouts to all the parts. Hello, let me introduce you to my GT Ultrabox. When I discovered this bike, I just had to have one! By luck, I managed to get two XXL frames, sold one, and kept the other, which was bare at the time. I already knew what would become of it! My previous bikes had allowed me to collect the necessary parts for this project (which took nearly 4 years!). I took the frame to a well-known hip-hop graffiti artist recognized for his talent and presented the project to him, which he found exciting.
Compared to the original, I preferred to have the rear stays polished, which I felt highlighted a transition from darkness to light. Once the frame was finished, all that was left was to assemble the beast. This was completed during an early gathering in the south of France (BOMD). The clear coat includes diamond powder, which makes the bike sparkle brilliantly when the sunlight hits it—a true marvel!
